SI doesn’t put just any golfer on its cover. If Matt Kuchar had won, he probably doesn’t get a cover.

SI looks for players who have the reach to transcend the game. Tiger, Phil, Rory, and now Jordan.

As you can see, SI also is big on proclaiming new eras.

Hyperbole is the new norm. When Rory won his first major by a bunch, folks were breathless and predicting that he’d win 20-plus majors. Things are just a tad over the top. But it’s also about selling magazines and driving clicks, right?
